Forget pumpkin spice, I love Fall for the Football.
If you’ve landed here, you’re going to find festive spreads inspired by Saturdays Between the Hedges. Whether you are packing up the car or watching on the sofa, each week I’ll share menu plans and recipe links to help you make the most of our favorite season.
A few years ago when my family moved a little too far from Stanford Stadium and we weren’t able to get to many home games, I began planning tailgate spreads to enjoy while we watched the game on TV. Soon my basement was full of teenaged boys who may or may not have been Bulldog fans but who came to enjoy the food and fun. Mom’s football tradition continues even thought my boys have flown the nest. We still swap recipes and menus for game days when we can’t watch together. They share snacks with their friends, and my friends join me around my screen. (I pretty much only turn on my TV in months that end in -ber.)
Often my menus honor the opponents and the food culture of their state. This site will offer you ideas for putting together your game day treats with some links to recipes I might be using. Sometimes there will be commentary or suggested tweaks, but really we are here for the joy of the game and the crunchy, salty snacks that help us make it through the nailbiters.
Whoever you are cheering for and whatever is on your tailgate table, make the most of Saturdays this fall. Go Dawgs!
