When you love somebody… and the tailgate is far, far away

I know.

Why is there a Notre Dame game right here on in a place dedicated to the Dawgs? Well, I’m in love with a member of the Fighting Irish alumni (such a ND family – with an Italian last name!). So, I’ve been on this journey of learning to cheer for a Blue and Gold team on occasion and have been challenged to create fun tailgate menus that most often call on the cuisine of Middle America.

When I learned that the opening game of the 2023 college football season would be Notre Dame vs Navy – and the game would be in Dublin, Ireland, I began a campaign to tailgate across the Pond. Life didn’t let that happen, but, undaunted, I jumped at the chance to plan a celebration worthy of game day in an Irish Pub.

We’re starting off with Reuben Nachos – built on a base of roasted potatoes. I can’t wait to try this!

Then I’m baking up a few of Trader Joe’s Steak and Stout Pies. I’ve been looking for a reason to try these for a while.

Every game needs a good dip and this one is for the Guinness fans out there.

And this menu needs a great salad, and I think this hits all the great marks.

But were this Georgia girl to actually tailgate in a pub in Ireland, she’d still need a whiskey and coke in the second half. I’ll be putting a splash of Jameson in my glass this weekend – so that everyone knows which team still has my heart!

It’s not the Dawgs yet – but GAME DAY is finally here! Cheers!
